Beware the Ides of April

We went to visit Laura's family in Tennessee this week. It felt like we were on the go the whole time, except at dinner. Laura's mom is a great cook, so I ate well.

This morning I noticed that tmbg.net has fallen victim to some stupid defacement attack. This has happened before, but this time the damage looks like it might be more extensive. I'm not sure how long it'll take to return things to normal, or even whether it's possible. It's kind of frustrating.

Speaking of which, we've been working on our income taxes this afternoon/evening. My own tax nightmare usually has its cloaking device activated in my consciousness. It has not grown any prettier since the garish light of day last shone upon it. But I think I can finally put it to rest this year, and have only the current year's taxes to worry about at any given moment. That'll be enough, God knows. I'm sick to death of thinking about this stuff. Time for some enchiladas and a margarita.

:( That sucks. Why would somebody do that? tmbg.net will come back though, won't it? I NEED IT.

There's no indication that they singled out tmbg.net for any special reason. In fact, the original security breach seems to have affected other, unrelated pages that are hosted on the same server. The guilty parties probably just wanted more bandwidth to host their pr0n or warez or something.

I don't think this is the end of tmbg.net, but the timing is about as bad as possible. Our backup server was recently reformatted by some clueless interloper, so depending on the extent of the damage on the main server, we may actually need to reconstruct a lot of the data from local copies and archived emails. But we'll see.

It's out of my hands at the moment. We can't do anything until the hosting company takes some action to return control to us, and I don't even know that it's been brought to their attention yet.
